Of Eastern Passage, passed away at his home on September 27, 2016. Martin is survived by his mother Jane, Burnaby, BC; sister Gail Sapp, Austin, TX; brother Steve, Smithers, BC. Martin has numerous nieces, nephews and other family members in Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his father Kenneth Kazuo Uyesugi. Martin was born in Montreal on April 26, 1949, but grew up in the Toronto Area graduating from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Resource Management and Geology) and from the Electronic Technician & Technology Program at Seneca College. Most of his career was spent with Geoforce Group Limited and precursor companies in Dartmouth. Martin met his future business partner Graham Standen when they both worked for Huntec (70) Limited as employees in 1980, focusing on subsurface seafloor mapping, mostly collaborating with the Geological Survey Canada – Atlantic at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Martin enjoyed going to sea operating deep-tow sub-bottom profilers and other marine geophysical equipment for government and private sector clients in most parts of the global oceans and he was instrumental in continuously improving important ocean technology gear. His roles included survey technician, operations manager, general manager and company president. Martin was bought out by Graham in 2013 but continued helping with many technical tasks at Geoforce while enjoying semi-retirement. Among other hobbies he was an avid collector of precious watches, specialty fishing rods and telescopes for astronomy. A quiet person, he was an esteemed shipmate, great technician and work colleague to many in the oceans technology community.
